United Way Period Promise

The Period Promise Community Action Group

Made up of local activists, unions, non-profits, and business partners working together to increase access to menstrual products in our community, the Period Promise Community Action Group is making incredible strides on the issue of period poverty.

This dedicated collection of volunteers represent the core of United Way’s commitment to collaboration and creating solutions in partnership with community.

Representatives from I’m with Periods, Aisle (formerly Lunapads), the Red Tent Project, ILWU Local 500, Period UBC and others make up this impactful group of professionals from diverse sectors.

"At Aisle we believe in the power of collective action and that is why we are a part of the Period Promise Community Action Group,” says Aisle co-founder Madeleine Shaw. “This partnership is bringing us into closer alignment with like-minded activists to allow us to innovate as a local business to reach the goals of Period Promise."

"Aisle is innovating around education and advocacy to dismantle the structural causes of period poverty. You can't stick pads over stigma; our work is taking a holistic approach to bring fun, period positive education into schools, community centres and businesses all over British Columbia!"

Meeting several times a year, these five working groups imagine innovative ideas for the movement, while supporting and growing the Community Action Group:

Volunteer Engagement and Public Mobilization Working Group;
Advocacy Planning and Policy Research Working Group;
Research and Data Collection Working Group;
Coalition Building and Recruitment Group;
Communication Surveillance and Strategies Working Group
